  • To work as part of a team in the imaging services team assisting radiographers and radiology nurses in providing a high quality diagnostic service
  • To carry out all duties to the agreed standard in accordance with departmental protocols
  • To provide a high standard of basic patient care to include a diverse range of patients
  • Collection of patients from wards and delivery to radiology and other departments
  • To deliver specimens to the laboratory as required
  • To maintain medical gases (oxygen and Co2) in the department

1. To work effectively in a team with other porters and radiology staff to ensure the safe movement of patients and their notes to and from the x-ray department
1. Coordination and communication with the Radiographers, RDA’s and Radiology Nurses to ensure the safe arrival and return of in-patients to the imaging department. This will include being able to relay important information to and from the Radiology department to nursing
1. To competently use CapMan system to transfer patients to and from the Radiology department
1. To assist in the moving and transfer of patients as required in the x-ray examination rooms (to include pat-sliding and log rolling following appropriate training)
1. To carry out miscellaneous errands between departments and wards, including a messenger service if required
1. To maintain medical gases and supporting equipment in the department .This includes;

  • access to the medical gas stores for stock rotation and control (oxygen and CO2)
  • H&S checks on equipment to ensure they are left in the correct designated areas, working condition and not damaged
  • Timely replacement of cylinders in the case of emergencies/ transfers as necessary
  • Assist the Medical Gases lead Porter in stock control

1. To safely transfer the deceased from the Radiology Department to the Mortuary.
1. To maintain x-ray wheelchairs and trolleys (including MRI compatible specialist transfer equipment).
