We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel – Litigation role to join our highly successful and renowned in-house team, on a Permanent full time Contract basis. You will be a qualified solicitor working in the Everyday Banking, Homes & Financial Support (EDBHFS) litigation team, reporting into the Head of the team and sitting within the wider Legal & Corporate Governance function. The job holder will deliver expert, accurate, concise, and cost-effective legal advice in relation to litigation and litigation avoidance issues which flow from the EDBHFS functions.

Provision of high quality, concise, pragmatic, and commercial SME legal advice in relation to litigation and litigation avoidance issues flowing from the EDBHFS functions, reporting to the Head of the team, including management of a litigation portfolio and the potential for contentious project work
) Proactively identifying and mitigating potential legal risks and advising on the legal position in relation to crystallised legal risks to ensure the business is equipped to make sound risk appetite decisions.
Working in collaboration with teams across the Legal & Corporate Governance function in relation to EDBHFS matters.
What you’ll bring.
Solicitors Practising Certificate for England and Wales with a minimum of 4 years PQE; or Practicing barrister with minimum 4 years post calling; or Hold a Scottish or foreign jurisdiction equivalent.
Experience of working in litigation, preferably with a UK financial services angle / background and able to apply commerciality and judgement from a regulatory perspective.
It would also be nice for you to have.
The role requires good understanding of the UK financial services industry and the political and economic environment. Knowledge of Santander’s business is preferable but not essential.
Good knowledge and understanding of regulatory framework of UK financial services, industry trends and best practice.
Able to apply commerciality and judgement from a regulatory perspective to internal and market information
Acts decisively and fosters confidence and assumes responsibility, ownership, and accountability for the teamer actions.

This is a full-time permanent contract. The role will be a hybrid role based in both our Manchester office and from home.
