Job Brief:

As a senior employee and a member of the Operational Management team, you will influence the business overall through effective and strategic cost, contract, inventory and global supplier management to support and grow the sales and profit of the business. Managing a small team and working with a wider operational management team to deliver business objectives, you will be self-starting and dynamic in your approach to the management of cost and time efficient processes required to maximise the effectiveness of the professional purchasing department.

Key Activities:

  • Managing and supporting a small purchasing team to ensure all purchase orders are placed promptly to meet and exceed customer requirements amongst a number of service driven KPI’s
  • Imp/Exp process management
  • Inventory management
  • Cost management
  • Purchasing process management
  • Contract management
  • Global supplier relationship management

Responsibilities include:

  • Approx. £2M spend including raw materials, components, finished goods, consumables, logistics, utilities, hardware, software, telecoms and services
  • ERP maintenance and categorisation of approx. 75000 SKU’s
  • Defining, creating, implementing, reviewing and managing in-house processes
  • Negotiating prices and contracts with global supply base
  • Supplier evaluation and management to ensure quality and timeliness of supply
  • Cross functional co-ordination of inventory monitoring, storage and accuracy
  • Identify and research purchasing technology trends and oversee purchase and implementation as required
  • Visiting global supply base as required
  • Supporting the business objectives to grow sales & profit
  • Collaborating with all other departments to ensure process harmonisation

Skills Required:

  • IT Literacy including Microsoft Office package and ERP
  • Research & analytical with attention to detail
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective negotiation
  • Flexible approach to ‘getting the job done’

Experience, Education & Qualifications:

You must be an experienced Procurement & Supply Chain professional with at least 10 years’ experience in purchasing roles, ideally within manufacturing/engineering and/or the distribution sector and at least 3 years at a senior level with supervisory or management responsibility.

You will have wide ranging international procurement experience including business travel.

You will almost certainly have been professionally trained, preferably to MCIPS or an appropriate degree level qualification.
